One of my favorite things about living on campus during the Fall semester is Christmas on Campus. Every year, Student Government Association (SGA) and Urbana University work together to create the event that is open for the community. Students help the community to participate in imitation ice-skating, horse-drawn carriage rides, and Santa’s Workshop projects for the kids. Santa makes an appearance, as well as various choirs from Urbana City Schools.

My friends and I started in the Student Center, and then jumped in line for a ride in the horse-drawn carriage. Because there were a total of 13 of my friends who wanted to ride together, we rode in the trolley that was pulled by two horses, around campus. We sang Christmas carols and it was so much fun when the other passengers joined in.

Then we went over to see our friends in the theater performance called “Entertaining Angels.” This year the Reader’s Theater class put together the performance that correlated with the Tiffany Windows Angel exhibit. The play was a collection of poems, adapted by the students, and based on angels.

The event is free and open to the public, so if you are considering Urbana University, I think it would be a lot of fun to bring your family and friends to visit on that night. There are a lot of activities to do during this event, for both young and old. If you are interested in attending next year, ask your admissions counselor for the date, or go to the Urbana University website and check the calendar for events. Happy Holiday’s to both you and your family. :)
